Joy Bashara, teacher from USA, completed ten days at Kemerovo University, Siberia in Russia. This was conducted to analyze the current standard of American English at the university. She observed the scope of cross-cultural communication between Russians and Americans.

   Since Joy's last time here teaching (20 years ago), many things have changed. She states, "it is so interesting to me to talk to students about current events, happening both here and in America. Everyday life has changed and so language has changed.

   If we talk about student experiences, it seems to me that Kemerovo students have a narrower but deeper interest in certain subjects. Americans, when looking at the same issues, show a broader acceptance."

   Finally, according to Bashara, our region is not only interesting for it's people, but also for it's climate. She lives in Green Bay, Wisconsin which is in northcentral USA. They experience lots of snow and hard frosts. So our severe Siberian climate doesn't frighten her and she hopes to return.
