Gnome Home No More

Gnome Home No More is the third book in a children's series dealing with a little gnome finding his home and family. This book begins with Eilert, our gnome hero, arriving at his home, only to find that the family isn't there anymore. He and his new friend, Karin, were transported there with the help of their talisman; so when Eilert becomes gurious and in a fit of rage destroys his talisman, they are forced to find another way to travel. The adventures that follow take them on planes, buses and boats to search in Norway where Eilert's family lived a century earlier. With charming, lively dialogue and vivid description, the young reader is taken into a magical world of little people. This book format includes creative writing and illustrating pges where the children are encouraged to write the next episode. Poetry, song, and dialogue lend the book to dramatization. The changing of home and familyprovide thoughtful engagement for the children. Grades 2-5.

There's something magical about garden gnomes, and though they're made of ceramic, there's just a mysterious feel about them that makes one believe that they could take off on an adventure at any moment - and you've captured this feeling so nicely here! And of course, Eilert himself is a charming character.

After hearing the history of how the story came about, our students thoroughly enjoyed reading about the exciting adventures of Eilert the Gnome. They continue to read about Eilert in our classroom, and look forward to hearing about his next great adventure!

Joy's time spent in our classroom helped our 7th graders realize that creativity and inspiration can come from anywhere at anytime. They have come away with a confidence and an understanding that what they write and how they write can be meaningful.
